Dr. Leonard lived in the Middle East for 35 yrs, speaks fluent Arabic, and is the godfather and honorary uncle to dozens in many Middle Eastern communities. He has degrees from UT, John Hopkins, Hartford Seminary, and Harvard. He has been an Oxford Visiting Scholar, and a Traveling Fellow of Harvard. He is highly regarded for UN service with UNRWA (for Palestinian refugees) and UNESCO. In 2009 he held the Basler Chair at ETSU, where he taught two courses on Middle Eastern Culture.
